Public Safety

  • In 2007, Rep. Bordsen was appointed Co-Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.  The committee is charged with appropriating $2 billion of the state budget.  Striking a balance between public safety and fiscal responsibility has been the focus of the committee this session.
    • Representative Bordsen advocated for funding for the Piedmont Triad Regional crime lab that allows for evidence to be processed locally, instead of in Raleigh.
    • Representative Bordsen is committed to increasing funding to the under-funded court system in North Carolina and expanding access to courts.
    • Rep. Bordsen also sponsored a bill for increased funding for Treatment Accountability for Safe Communities (TASC).  TASC provides behavioral and drug treatment to those involved in the justice system; these treatments help keep our communities safe.
  •  Keeping our communities safe is Representative Bordsen’s first priority.
