Affordable Health Care

o        As health care costs continue to rise, the lack of affordable health care affects all of us, especially our children.  Rep. Bordsen supported a constitutional amendment for health care for all this session.

o        One way to control health care costs is to provide in-home services.  Rep. Bordsen worked to encourage provision of health care in the home with increased home health funds.

o        Rep. Bordsen sponsored a Medicaid Income Limits Level Study. H92 directs the Department of Health and Human Services to review options for increasing Medicaid Medically Needy income limits. We must find a method for increasing the current standard for our citizens in need of healthcare who cannot qualify for Medicaid. This study will look at whether or not the current limit is fair and consistent.

o        To help promote healthy habits in our citizens and decrease the need for and cost of health care overall, Rep. Bordsen supported H23. This bill proposes increased funding for statewide health promotion that would support county work on public health issues.

o        In 2008, Rep. Bordsen supported H2744, which would expand Health Insurance for Children.  In the 2008 budget passed by the General Assembly, over 10,000 additional children were incorporated into the NC Health Choice program.
